New video: pike in the polder

New video: pike in the polder

At the end of February, a film crew from the German angling magazine Blinker visited the Netherlands for a few days to make videos about pike in the Netherlands. They were promised beforehand that there would be pike at every turn in the channels and polders around Woerden and Gouda. You can see for yourself if that was the case, in this great video!

In the video, presenters Johannes Radtke from Blinker magazine and Alexander Seggelke – director of the Deutscher Angelfischerverband (German Angling Association), or DAFV for short – are surprised by the abundant, beautiful angling waters in the Groene Hart in the middle of the Netherlands.

Guided by Fishing in Holland team members Pieter Beelen and Robert de Wilt – and naturally with the VISpas in their pockets – the men explore the watery polders and residential areas in search of pike. Johannes uses a fly rod and streamer, while Alexander uses a spinning rod and artificial lure. Right off the first cast, Johannes just misses a bite from a nice pike, setting the tone for a very fishy adventure.

Plenty of info

This new video treats you to plenty of pike action, beautiful drone footage, and an explanation of the VISpas, VISplanner app and the www.fishinginholland.nl online platform, which is also entirely available in English.

This video was shot before the closed season. From 1 April until the last Saturday in May (29 May in 2022), anglers are prohibited from fishing with almost all types of artificial lures in the Netherlands' inland waters, as well as with dead bait, cut bait and offal. If you'd like to know more, click here for a clear explanatory video.

Plan your pike trip!

Naturally, planning your pike trip to the Netherlands in advance is a good idea, since the lure fishing season is set to open on Saturday 29 May. Autumn and winter are also excellent pike fishing periods in the Netherlands. You can find all the information you need about coming to fish in the Netherlands at www.fishinginholland.nl, as well as tips for the best fishing spots and fishing techniques. You can also order your VISpas online on the site – if you don’t already have one, that is!
You can read the reports about this pike trip in Fliegenfischen No. 3/22, Angelwoche Nr. 10/22 en Blinker Nr. 06/22.

Handy online map

During their fishing weekend, Johannes and Alexander stayed at the Landal Reeuwijkse Plassen holiday park. This is one of the ideal angling accommodation sites that you can easily find on the Fishing in Holland map. The same map also gives you a good overview of the professional angling guides and angling shops operating in the Netherlands.
