Extension of sea bass 2019
Anglers are allowed to bag one sea bass for their own consumption in 2019 from 1 April first to 31 October. Sport Fishing Netherlands and the European Anglers Alliance (EAA) have successfully battled for this improvement in The Hague and Brussels compared to the years 2016, 2017 and 2018.
Although the angler has a small advantage compared to recent years (you can now effectively fish all year for bass with a bag limit of one fish per day), the EAA hoped for more regarding the low impact angling for sea bass.
That hope was fueled by the broad support that we received recently in the House of Representatives, and certainly when the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality submitted to the European Commission the plea of the EAA and Sportvisserij Nederland for three bass for seven months in 2019.
All praise for our representatives and the ministry. It is unfortunate that this effort has not resulted in a lager bag limit, but the outcome of negotiations between the fisheries ministers of the EU Member States is always unpredictable. Click here
