Rules on sea bass, January-March 2021

As a result of Brexit – which also requires amendments to countless laws and regulations in relation to fishing – we have only been given confirmation of the rules on sea bass for the first quarter of 2021. In January and February, anglers must release all sea bass that they catch, while in March a ‘bag limit’ of two fish will apply, with due observance of the minimum size of 42cm.

In the first quarter of 2021 there will also be a complete ban on keeping sea bass caught with recreational grill nets. In relation to commercial fishing, the quota for the first quarter will be a quarter of the annual quota, with the exception of a number of strongly seasonal fisheries. February and March will still be categorised as closed season.
