Fishing the river Waal and Upper Merwede

The Waal (and downstream of it the Boven Merwede) is what you’d call a wild, churning mass of water. Whatever you’re fishing for, this river – which is an important route for professional navigation – has it all. Pike, perch, catfish or asp, either from the riverbanks or together with a fishing guide.

Fishing in the hard current

Monster catfish

Fishing from atop the groynes or from the small beaches in between them. And then there are decent barbel stocks and as of lately also catfish stocks. Zanders over 90 centimetres and barbels of over 80 centimetres, huge ides, colossal asps and monster catfish: the Waal has it all!

Asp caught in the river Waal

And also here your VISpas gives you access to most parts of the Waal.
