Catfish in Holland

Back in the days you would have to go to Spain to catch one of these, but today the Netherlands is one of your go-to destinations if you’re looking for these fresh water monsters.

Big rivers

Catfish stocks in the Dutch rivers have increased enormously, and especially in the Maas, IJssel and the Waal you’re in for some catfish successes – for instance by angling from a belly boat. There is a closed season for catfish during the whole year. That means that every catfish should be released immediately in the same water.

Just like in other countries the nightly hours are the ideal time to fish for catfish, even though you can also catch respectably sized specimens during daytime (over 2 metres).
